Project 6: Repair of Memory (Project 5 improvement)
For this week's prompt of Revisit, Repair, Revise, Reinvent, I chose to continue on my last installation for the prompt "Memory".
To further implement the idea of travel and childhood, I used clothes - shirts, long-sleeved shirts, and tank tops, as well as the suitcase for visual connection to the idea. To fix the problem of cluttering and unrelated objects in the last piece, I instead just put a briefcase in place of the table and box. In addition, I replaced the bed sheet that I projected on with shirts sewed together - drawing more attention to the projection and also the texture of the sewing patterns.
As a result, when the viewers step closer to see the tarp and the suitcase, they will also notice the images showing up, similar to those already in the suitcase, and be intrigued in exploring the different aspects of the piece as how to trigger the sensor.
I am happy that I listened to Ms. Watkins to revise my Memories piece by creating a pattern on the projecting surface, because it added the final missing piece to create a network of connections between the distinct components of the artwork. I also received help from Erika to learn how to sew again for the first time since elementary school, which allows me to understand the time and effort it takes to make the beautiful surfaces of textiles and clothing items.
Overall, I am happy I took a step further with my Memory installation, and I am glad that it turned out even more interesting than I expected it to be.
