Thesis Project #2: Hyperbolic Visualization
As part of family tradition, I grew up with constantly tangible pressure to succeed in my academics. Furthermore, I encounter the daily issues of relationships, mental wellness, and physical health - all of which happen at the same time, without signs of stopping. Hence, for this project, I portrayed the moment of ultra-exhaustion. Choosing a lounge space as the background, I put myself in a perfect place for relaxation. Like my identity project, I took on the challenge of creating artificial body parts - visualizing imagined images of myself that appear in my thought as I experienced a state of elevated emotion. As I relax and give up control of my body, I enter a stage of free-flowing - no stress, no pressure, only me as my unprotected self.
This picture took me a lot of time, particularly because the lighting needs to be consistent in all body parts, and as such requires a lot of fine-tuning and simulated shadows. I also needed to work on maximizing the tiredness of the figure in order to enhance the effect it has on the viewer. Ultimately, I ended up with the right methods and figured out how to bring this idea to reality, but only after several trials and errors and the help of my friends.
