Thesis Project #5: Stocking and Ski Nets

For this week's thesis project, I made a cage that contains human-like body parts, many of which are escaping through the cage's holes. Inspired by Sarah Lucas, Rosa Verloop, and Erika Egliskis's works, I wanted to do a piece using stuffings that would allow my objects to be more natural, soft, and easily manipulated. Through filling up the tights, I create a snake-like objects that resembles both the human limbs and the organs. I then sewed the fingers individually and then attached it to some of the tights to create hands coming out of the box. The tension of the body parts-like objects as they are pushed inside the barrier box resembles my struggles in moments of elevated emotions. Like trying to contain these body parts within the netted box, I failed to contain the very human, very natural emotions that have erupted uncontrollably.
